Monty Python – A Liar’s Autobiography

29/06/2011

After over two decades Monty Python has begun production on a reunion project, which has been co-financed, and will be distributed, by Trinity Film. Their final foray will be an animated 3D adaptation of Graham Chapman’s A LIAR’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Originally published in 1980, the book details Chapman’s journey from medical school to his work in comedy to grabbling with his sexual identity.

Using the voice recordings Chapman completed before his death, he lives on in the film as his dialogue is matched up with new recordings laid down by the likes of Terry Gilliam (above). Starring old hats, such as John Cleese and Michael Pallin, each Python takes on numerous roles, in typically hilarious fashion, to make up the montage of scenes.

Over 15 different animation companies are working on the new movie, each completing scenes of varying lengths, promising to bring together an eclectic range of styles. Producer Jeff Simpson has commented: “Creatively, the different styles reflect the stages in Graham’s life. Also, it saves us a lot of time!”

"I am delighted to find myself working with [Chapman] again on this exciting project" says Terry Jones, though added, in what seems fitting with the Python's reputation, "I had no idea until recently that Graham Chapman is in fact dead—I thought he was just being lazy!"

The film is due to be completed and ready for release by Spring next year and by all accounts it shouldn’t fail to live up to the legacy they left behind.

SIGN UP to be kept informed of the production's latest developments.
